Boarding & Preparation
TBE Bathrooms provides trade‑standard boarding and preparation for wet rooms, walls and ceilings, delivering a flat, moisture‑resistant substrate tailored to your finish. With 27 years' experience and on‑site CAD-backed surveys, we specify the correct board type, fixings and tanking so tilers and cladders can fit first time. Work is carried out to industry standards and local building regs, across Ashford, Maidstone, Canterbury and surrounding Kent areas.
Our Process
How It Works
Site survey & specification
On‑site design survey with CAD check: we record stud positions, levels, drainage falls and substrate condition, then specify cement boards, WBP plywood or moisture‑resistant plasterboard and any tanking required.
Strip out & preparation
Controlled removal of loose plaster, failed boarding and obstructions, repair of timbers where needed, and installation of packers or noggins to create secure fixing points.
Boarding, sealing & handover
Mechanically fix boards with corrosion‑resistant fixings, tape seams, apply tanking or vapour control where specified, survey flatness to tile tolerances and hand over a tiled‑ready substrate.

Boarding & preparation is a specialist trade stage. A correctly installed substrate combines the right board material, fixings and sealing to cope with moisture, movement and the loads from tiles or heavy cladding. TBE Bathrooms assesses each room — from a household wet room with a linear drain to a period property bathroom with uneven studwork — and prescribes cementitious backer boards, WBP plywood or moisture‑resistant plasterboard depending on structure, moisture risk and finish.
What we do on site:
- Full pre‑installation survey and CAD check to map out stud work, falls and services.
- Strip out and structural preparation, including fixing packers, replacing rotten timbers and adding noggins for secure screw fixings.
- Boarding with industry‑appropriate materials, mechanical fixings and taped seams, plus tanking or vapour control membranes where required.
- Final flatness check to tile tolerances and handover notes for the tiler or cladding installer.
We work with recognised tile and waterproofing systems and can coordinate directly with your tiler or supply the complete finish as part of a turnkey bathroom project across Ashford, Maidstone, Canterbury and the rest of Kent.
